Featured Question

What happens if the baby has the umbilical cord around his/her neck?
Very often the baby has the umbilical cord wrapped around him or her. The cord vessels are supported by a gelatin-type material called Wharton’s jelly which protects the vessels. Approximately 50% of babies will have the cord wrapped around them at some point in the pregnancy. This does not endanger the baby in any way. You cannot cause the cord to wrap around the baby with your position. For example, it is okay to raise your hands above your head.
